Ceylon Agro Industries (CAI)

The multi-faceted operations of CAI has provided employment to the nation and assisted in the development and growth of the food industry of the economy. Simultaneous marketing of its wide range of wholesome, nutritious and versatile food products, has contributed to the nutritional requirements of the nation, bringing home goodness to all Sri Lankan families.

Agriculture
As a community project, Ceylon Agro Industries introduced imported hybrid seeds to local farmers for the cultivation of maize as a cash crop in the dry zone. Educational programmes were carried out to educate more than 25000 farmer families on the management and operation of this project.

Seed distribution centres offering advisory and training facilities were set up to contribute to the development of the agro industries sector of the nation. To date, more than 60,000 acres are under cultivation during the Maha season alone, through the agency of CAI. We facilitate credit facilities and crop insurance and most importantly, a buy back guarantee for the farmers' crops.

Prima Champions Cup started on 16th October, 2009 for the third consecutive year!
Prima Group (Sri Lanka), in partnership with Sri Lanka Cricket organized Prima Champions Cup 2009, Under 15 Inter-district Cricket Tournament with the intension of uplifting junior cricket in the country. This is the 3rd year after successful two years of the alliance between Prima and Sri Lanka cricket.

The exciting opening ceremony held at SSC Ground on 15th October 2009, under the patronage of CEO Sri Lanka Cricket, Mr.Dulip Mendis, Prima Group General Manager Mr. Tan Beng Chuan and General Manager Ceylon Agro Industries Mr.Shun Tien Shing. All the teams, team managers, district and provincial coaches, Sri Lanka Cricket coaching staff and other distinguished guests participated in the opening ceremony.

This year 26 teams participated from 24 districts as opposed to last year's 24 making it the largest tournament thus far. The new teams representing Jaffna and Mannar Districts ensured the entire island was represented for the very first time in such a tournament.

As always Prima provided all teams with total nutrition and cricket gear while all teams received professional guidance from SLC coaches, thus ensuring all teams competed equally.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony, Dulip Mendis, CEO SLC said "SLC is proud to partner Prima in this tournament, and recognizes their contribution to the uplifting of Junior Cricket in Sri Lanka. This tournament is a vital part of the cricketing calendar of SLC as this contributes to the selection process of Junior National Cricket teams"

Speaking at the launch Mr.Tan Beng Chuan, Group General Manager, Prima Group said "It is our great pleasure to sponsor this Under 15 Cricket Tournament for the 3rd consecutive year, as we recognize the need to encourage and harness young cricketing talent. We are happy to announce that this partnership with SLC will continue for 3 more years and help young cricketers to become excellent National Level Players"

Prima provided nutrition to all players throughout the tournament. To symbolize this commitment, Mr. Tan Beng Chuan & Mr. Shun Tien Shing handed over a food package to CEO SLC Mr. Dulip Mendis and his team, along with the Champions Cup Trophy and the Sponsorship Cheque. In addition, cricketing gear were handed over to all captains and coaches of the respective teams.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Sajith Guneratne, Senior Marketing Manager said "Our commitment to developing junior cricket in Sri Lanka will go beyond this tournament. With the help of SLC, we have conducted over 20 coaching camps during the last two years, for under 13 & under 15 cricketers and will continue do so. Also, for the first time, we have developed coaching posters with the guidance of Sri Lanka Cricket to educate finer points on batting, balling, fielding and wicket keeping to be distributed among the entire coaching staff of Sri Lanka Cricket.

Prima Bread Sponsors Sri Lanka Junior Golf Championship 2009 for the 2nd Consecutive Year
This year's Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship, which had the active sponsorship of 'Prima Bread', was held from December 16th to 18th at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

It was a tournament that was open to both boys and girls under the age of 18 years and, has assumed a measure of importance in that it serves as a platform for the Sri Lanka Golf Union to identify potential talent to play at the national level. It is currently the most prestigious tournament for young golfers in Sri Lanka and this year over 60 players battled it out for top honors indicating the growing popularity of the sport.

It was conducted according to the following age groups; Age group 15-17 years (Gold Division), Age group 11-14 years (Silver Division), and Age group 10 years and under (Bronze Division).

Mithun Perera, Binupa Wijesinghe, Lalith Kumar and Tissa Chandradasa were all past champions at this tournament, and have now gone on to become Sri Lanka's top golfers.

This years winners were 15-17 years (Gold Division) Winner - Chana Perera 235. 11-14 years (Silver Division) Winner - Sachin de Silva 233 & 10 years and under playing 9 holes over two days Winner - Ishira Fernando 95

Sachin de Silva was declared the Sri Lanka Junior National Golf Champion for the year 2009 beating last years' winner Danika De Silva.

Special mention must be made of the 'sandwich bar' by which Prima supplied all participants, delicious healthy sandwiches on all three days of the tournament. Prima Bread's commitment to sponsor this tournament for the second year running is a confirmation of it's plan to building a long term relationship in promoting the sport motivating the youth and uplifting the standard of junior golf in Sri Lanka.
